About Us

January 23, 2010

Greetings, All

We at Natural Pools & Gardens, NPG, have been waiting for this moment for quite a while.  Now we can share, as often as necessary or care to, information about all the products and services for virtually all aspects in your outdoor living space.  Blogging is new to me, so please bear with my learning curve.

Some of you aren’t familiar with us, or are not even from the Tucson, AZ area, so a little introduction is in order.  Everything we do is related to water.  Our Primary Focus is the design, construction and renovation of functional outdoor living spaces, centered on a water element of some sort, be it a pool, spa, fountain, waterfeature, watergarden or water harvesting system and providing functional landscaping to complement the owner’s lifestyle.

That sentence is summed up in our name – Natural Pools & Gardens.  Certainly we do water elements using natural boulders for that natural look, but we actually design the outdoor living space so it naturally fits the space, views and lifestyle.  We chose gardens as we realize that a functional space includes hardscape, softscape and people enjoying it all.  We don’t just slap a pool in your yard – unless that’s all you want.

I’m Carl Ragel and I have been playing with water since I was a little kid with a garden hose – sculpting it, fanning it – running it over rocks to see if  I could make it pretty and sound pleasing.  I swam every time I could, I built my first hydroponic garden in the 5th grade, have grown veggies since the same time, built my first pond at 13 and by 15 was working on a swimming pool plumbing crew.  Family business – child labor laws are different.  Spent 18 years there, learning how to fix most anything and building waterfeatures, leaving in ‘87 as General Manager – best education I ever got.  Spent five years as a project manager at another company,  bringing my huge bag of tricks with me, doing massive waterfalls, pool renovations, landscaping and more.  Did root feeding and landscape pest control on the weekends until I opened the doors of NPG on September 16, 1994.  We still do root feeding and weed control.

My co-workers and I have a results-oriented approach to everything we do, which is a lot.  Most of our projects are things others can’t or won’t do.  One example is waterfeature repair.  Our skillset and specialized materials goes beyond that of others, who primarily build new units.  Another is in the pool side of our business, whether a new unit or a renovation.  We know that most all water vessels leak – at shell penetrations and behind the tile line.  We install special sealants at the penetrations and a waterproofing agent at the tile line to keep pesky roots away from the skimmer and tile line, which cause deck heaving.  Most everyone else is focused on getting you a low price.  You get what you pay for.
